Messenger (Facebook)

Request a copy of your messages from Meta in JSON format.

1. On facebook.com, open Accounts Center › Your information and permissions › Download your information.
2. Choose to download to your device, pick your Facebook profile and select only Messages.
3. Choose the date range, set Format to JSON and Media quality to High, then create the files.
4. Meta emails you when the download is ready (this can take a while). Download and unzip it.
5. Inside, open your_facebook_activity › messages › inbox and find the folder named after your partner.
6. Copy only that folder into your materials folder. Long chats have several message_1.json, message_2.json files; keep them together.

Tip: Meta stores times in UTC. Choose the time zone the conversation took place in under Layout › Time zone.

Menu names can differ slightly between app versions. Keep your original exports; VisaDocket only reads them.
